At Prelude, we equip aspiring game masters with the tools they need and make D&D accessible for new players.
Our desire is to bring people together through tabletop games.
FAQs
Your D&D questions, answered
Do I need to know any rules, or have any supplies ready before we play?
Nope! Maybe some paper and a pencil, or a note taking app of choice, but that's it! Your Host will guide you through the rules, and provide other resources as needed.
What does the Game Master / DM / Host do? Are we playing against each other?
If your Prelude session was a video game, you'd be a main character (like Mario or Lara Croft) and your Host would be the software engine simulating the world (like the Mushroom Kingdom or… Egypt?). Think of your Host as a collaborative referee more than an opponent. Even when they’re throwing challenges and obstacles your way, your Host is always available to answer questions and help you understand what’s happening.
Don't I need those weird-looking dice to play?
Nope! Maybe some paper and a pencil, or a note taking app of choice, but that's it! Your Host will guide you through the rules, and provide other resources as needed.
What's the point of the game? How do I win?
Unlike other games and sports, "Winning" and "losing" don't directly apply. Here, the fun and rewards come from exploring, overcoming obstacles, and collaborating with your fellow players (including your Host). Unlike the rigid boundaries of a board game or video game, you can help shape the experience to fit your interests. Working with your Host, there's virtually no limit to what you can create together!
Do I have to... y'know... Act?
Nope! No "speaking in character", accents, speeches, or silly voices required.Your Host may occasionally use a different voice, dramatic gestures, or sound effects to describe a game scenario, but please think of this as an invitation to join in, not an expectation. After all this is supposed to be fun, not uncomfortable!
